Looking to the Future and Learning from the Past

This year has involved an enormous amount of learning for me. It seemed that several lessons I’d been trying to learn finally came to conclusion with greater clarity and confidence. With that learning, came the vulnerable task of putting these learnings into action and making some changes. Here’s some of what I’m excited about for this New Year. If you’d like to explore changes you’d like to pursue, contact us.

I LOVE TEACHING: More EMDR Consultation Groups

I launched my first independent EMDR Consultation Group in September 2024. It has been a wonderful experience with 4 great clinicians! I’ve learned how to provide the most useful feedback and guidance to support everyone to become confident EMDR clinicians. I’m excited to expand my consultation group offerings in 2025

I WANT TO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT: Exploring EMDR Intensives

I’ve found my work as an EMDR clinician to be so rewarding and fulfilling in many ways. And I’m incredibly proud to now be a Certified EMDR Consultant. Over the past few years, I’ve become curious what would happen if we continued for more than just one session? What if we continued the work for several days in a row? I’ve found some great teachers who specialize in EMDR Intensives. The work they are doing is very exciting to me! I’m looking forward to expanding my skills set as an EMDR Clinician and to offer alternative options for new and current clients.

THE MORE I TAKE CARE OF ME THE MORE I CAN TAKE CARE OF OTHERS

I know this lesson. I teach this lesson. And we all get off track from time to time and need a reminder.  I found myself hooked by fear at times. It took time (and therapy) to transform the fear into forward movement. It took remembering how to separate the information I needed to hear from the judgement of having made a mistake or not knowing to begin with. Once I did that, the path forward was clear. I reached out for the support and input we all can benefit from. I bravely and vulnerably am implementing the needed changes for a better future. One of these changes is pursuing the EMDR Intensive training and opening a new option to do trauma healing work with clients.

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE CONNECTION

We upped our game this year with our 3rd Pizza for Providers and played a game of Networking Bingo with prizes. It’s inspiring to consistently meet new clinicians doing unique work with expansive perspectives. We can’t wait for #4 in 2025. At SteadyNYC we make a point to come together for some fun at least a few times throughout the year. We enjoyed playing indoor putt putt at Swingers and throwing Axes at Live Axe. I feel fortunate that we have such a wonderful group of colleagues (pictured here) who care for each other’s professional growth and also value time to laugh and have fun. And a monthly peer group that I initiated in 2022 of therapists who also run group psychotherapy practices, was able to come together for our first in-person gathering. The connection was everything.

GRATITUDE IS MEDICINE

One of the aspects of being a therapist, that I am grateful for is the consistent opportunity for self-reflection  and self-awareness. At various times throughout the year, when I felt the tug of fear and the mental chatter of "not enough" I returned to a more consistent Gratitude practice. Each and every time, my spirit lifted a little. Each time, I was re-grounded in the present. I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in client's journey of healing. I am grateful to be accompanied in this work by everyone at SteadyNYC - Shelby, Pallavi, Jessica, Julie, J, Merle and Brianna.
