Accepting new clients
Julie Gayer Kris, Licensed Master Social Worker, is an open, intuitive listener with natural warmth, humor and empathy. Julie creates spaces for clients where they can discover and connect with the many dimensions of who they are. Julie chose to study social work and psychotherapy as a way to deepen her capacity to help people integrate brain and body based practices with traditional talk therapy.
Working with clients, Julie uses a relational and somatic approach. Her therapeutic style is informed by attachment theory, understanding how attachment systems were shaped by early experiences and the impact this can have on our responses in general and especially within relationships with others. With significant training in yoga and dance therapy, Julie understands how our nervous systems share valuable insight into our wellbeing. She views each individual as a holistic system, made up of different layers - physical, mental, emotional and spirtual.
In addition, Julie’s work is informed by somatic therapy, a practice that centers around the mind-body connection. With clients, Julie explores what a client’s body may be communicating, making the unconscious more explicit, and letting our bodies inform our therapeutic work. Julie also enjoys incorporating parts work where we are curious about the diverse parts within ourselves, and we work to support integration, collaboration and care among these parts, so we can become more aware of our full selves and find our way towards our deepest joy.
Julie has over 20 years of experience guiding dance/movement therapy, yoga therapy and Reiki. She leads Brain Dance workshops and training for all ages. As a former dancer, she is attuned to the mind-body connection, and one of her gifts is helping clients translate their internal physical and energetic cues to support healing and acceptance.
Julie brings years of life experience to serving her community as a trusted guide and healing presence. She works with people of all ages and backgrounds, including parents, families, and children, as well as people with issues related to trauma, substance use, and aging. She approaches all of her work with curiosity and an anti-oppressive lens. Julie has worked on creating and guiding diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging practices within non-profit settings.
Julie enjoys bouncing on her trampoline, walking her dog in the neighborhood, and catching up with other parents at her son’s baseball practice. Contact us today.
