Merle Maynard, MFT-LP
Licensed in New York and New Jersey
Merle (they/them) is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist working with adolescents, adults, and partners throughout New York State. Merle works to make therapy a psychologically safe space, especially for people who have historically been left out of therapeutic healing due to systemic forces. Merle, a queer and neurodivergent parent themself, specializes in working with folks at the intersections of neurodivergence, gender and sexuality, relationships, and ethical non-monogamy.
Merle brings an intersectional lens to their practice and seeks to challenge systemic oppression and oppressive power structures inside and outside of the therapeutic space. Merle views mental health through a trauma informed, feminist, relational, cultural, and anti-capitalist lens. Merle values building genuine relationships with their clients, in which one feels able to explore complex and nuanced thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment nor pathologization.
Merle holds a Masters in Counseling Psychology from The Wright Institute as well as a Bachelors in Communication and Social Change and Political Economy from The Evergreen State College. Merle has previously worked for a group practice in Northern New York as well as King Middle School in Berkeley, CA. Contact them here today.
Outside of work, Merle enjoys drawing and painting, dancing while cooking, organizing for social justice, and snuggling with their dogs, Douglas Fur and Sequoia.
